Green Tip
Q. How can you protect the environment, protect the health of Sherman families and save money in one simple step?
A. Turn off your car at drop off, pick up or anytime you are waiting in your car.
An idling vehicle spews toxic gases, chemicals and particulate matter into the air, harming the quality of the air, soil and water. An idling vehicle emits 20 times more pollution than one traveling at 30 miles per hour. Breathing in exhaust can aggravate asthma, allergies and cardiovascular disease. Exhaust emissions have been linked to increases in school absences, ER visits and even premature deaths. Idling also wastes gas and money. 10 seconds of idling uses more fuel than turning off the engine and restarting it! (source CT DEP)
